Future Legacy Scholarship Program

The SOAAHS Future Legacy Scholarship supports motivated students as they transition from middle school to high school and begin planning for their future education. This scholarship is available to graduating 8th grade students who demonstrate academic potential with an overall GPA between 2.60 and 2.95.

The SOAAHS Scholarship Committee leads a comprehensive selection process designed to identify students who are committed to growth and achievement. Applicants will have their report cards or transcripts reviewed, complete a committee-assigned activity or assignment, and participate in a scheduled interview with the committee. Final decisions are made with Board approval, and candidates will receive an official notification letter by mail.

Selected recipients will receive a $500 scholarship pledge, with the potential for the award amount to increase over time as the program grows. To support long-term educational planning, SOAAHS will provide parents or guardians with a link to open a ScholarShare 529 college savings account, and the organization will contribute the initial funds to activate the account. If a parent or guardian does not open a 529 account, SOAAHS will place the scholarship funds into a four-year certificate of deposit (CD) on the student’s behalf.

Students whose funds are held in a CD must enroll in an accredited educational institution during the calendar year of their high school graduation in order to receive the scholarship funds. Failure to do so will result in the funds being returned to the SOAAHS Treasury, with exceptions considered for circumstances such as medical issues.

Through this program, SOAAHS aims to encourage academic persistence, early college planning, and long-term educational success for promising students in the community.
